Manuel Acevedo is a West Bronx-based multidisciplinary artist. Over time, he broadened his media to develop a distinctive style that combines photography, graphic wall drawing and text. His work reflects the intricacies and interplay of the urban landscape and its people: their contested histories, identity and the ever shifting boundaries of space.
Acevedo has been exhibiting his work in the U.S. and abroad for thirty-five years. Exhibitions include A Call for Peace, Monument Lab & Express Newark Rutgers; and Down These Mean Streets: Community and Place in Urban Photography at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C., as well as solo exhibitions at the Bronx River Art Center and Latino Cultural Center in Dallas, Texas. Acevedo was the recipient of the Colene Brown Art Prize at BRIC, the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant, and resident of Museum of Art & Design (Artist Studios) and Studio Museum in Harlem, AIR.
