Bronx-ology: Bronx-Centric Lyricism, Beats, Storytelling, & Conversation

In "Bronx-ology: Bronx-Centric Lyricism, Beats, Storytelling, & Conversation," Marcos De Jesus “de la Guagua” performs his existing Bronx-ology in Bronx public spaces while engaging Bronxites and Bronx communities in dialogue about their Bronx experiences. Based on Bronxite feedback, Marcos will develop new lyrical, storytelling and musical studies of the Bronx through the summer and perform a synthesis of the new work and the existing folio in Bronx public spaces in the autumn.

Marcos De Jesus “de la Guagua” is a rapper, vocalist and afri-Boricua percussionist songwriter. Motivated by a love rooted in three generations of epic community engagement and struggle, he is a hereditary praise poet of The Bronx. He sings the praises of The Bronx, lament her sorrows, cheer on her heroes, and consider her problems because his Abuelita and Papá did before me, and passed the practice down through storytelling, prophetic advocacy, and song.
