The Orchestra of The Bronx

The Orchestra of The Bronx

The Orchestra of The Bronx is The Bronx's only symphony orchestra. Our mission (since our founding in 1972) is to present concerts of different sizes in venues all over Bronx County. We have also been seen and heard in other parts of New York City, most notably at several 9/11 commemorations at the World Trade Center site. Our repertoire ranges from the Baroque to Modern eras, and has featured groups ranging from 10 to 90 musicians and exciting soloists. Our group consists of some of the best up-and-coming instrumentalists (students and alums of schools all across the country), as well as working musicians from all areas of New York’s symphonic, operatic and theatrical ensembles. Since 2005, we have also presented the Bronx Messiah, a presentation which combines our orchestra with soloists and chorus members from Bronx Opera (most of whom are solo vocalists in their own rights), and incorporates the Bronx’s leaders in business, politics and education (as well as other celebrities and Bronx residents) as readers of the texts on which Messiah’s solo pieces and choruses are based. We are currently assembling a virtual Messiah (in cooperation with BronxNet) which will combine 2019’s taped performances with readings and introductions from 2020 and 2021. In 2022 we plan to return to Bronx Community College's Hall of Fame Playhouse, home of the Bronx Messiah since 2012, as well as to full concerts at home at Lehman College’s Lovinger Theatre. All concerts will be presented free of charge.
