The Lighthouse Opera Company (LOC) was founded in December, 2016 as a non-profit arts organization. LOC’s mission is to: (1) perform operas from the standard repertory, in their original languages (with English translations for foreign works), presenting the full score, with full orchestra, and in diverse settings in the Bronx and beyond, and for diverse audiences; and (2) LOC seeks to shine a light on the range, depth and breadth of talented and diverse classically trained singers in our region by providing opportunities to perform the standard opera repertoire. In doing so LOC strives to cultivate new and diverse audiences for classical opera in the Bronx and beyond. LOC measures diversity based on the demographics of our home in the Bronx. Ideally, we want our audiences and artists to represent the range of people taking a Bronx subway to work.
