Sydney Valerio is a writer, mother, teacher, youth leadership coach, professor, poet, and performer. She wrote "Matters", a one-woman show, and performed it at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and the National Black Theatre. She has been the featured poet as several spoken word events in New York City. Her poetry is published in the anthology Mujeres: the Magic, the Movement & the Muse, in La Galería's print magazine, in the anthology Péinate: Hair Struggles Between Latina Mothers & Daughters and in the New Voices 2018 Anthology. She presented at the 2018 AWP in Tampa. A lifetime Bronx resident, Sydney is an NYC kid, by-product of a Dominican campo, who is now an NYC adult.
