I am a Mexican-American photographer, raised by a single mom. My family and I moved to the Bronx to restart our lives to after living in an abusive environment. This has influenced my work, leading me to explore themes of community, family and traditional Mexican values in the Bronx and Mexico. I started as a self-taught photographer but my curiosity led me to take a darkroom course at The Point. After a semester, I took a Teen Academy class at The International Center of Photography (ICP). I became a Teaching Assistant (TA) at The Point soon after my class at ICP as an attempt to give back to the community center that had changed my life. Currently I work as a TA for ICP and as a TA at The Bronx Documentary Center for their Bronx Junior Photo League program.
