Having spent most of her adult years as a nurse, in retirement, Helen has returned to writing, specifically: poetry. She earned her English Master’s--Creative Writing: poetry from City College--CUNY, when she was 62, returning to her childhood loves. The demands and toil of nursing and devotion to homeschooling her child had taken precedence; writing was put aside as an occasional hobby; though, through the years she’s been a participant in poetry workshops, mentored a number of them for the New York Public Library in the Mosholu Bronx branch and the NYC DOE, attended many poetry readings, and organized a number of poetry readings and festivals. These opportunities were sought to inspire her own writing. Currently, she has been working on a poetry collection steeped in history which required extensive research.
