Emily Raboteau is the author of two books: The Professor's Daughter and Searching for Zion: The Quest for Home in the African Diaspora, winner of an American Book Award. Her essays on race, place, social and environmental justice have appeared in the New Yorker, New York Magazine, Ploughshares, the Believer, The New York Review of Books, and elsewhere. She is a contributing editor at Orion Magazine and is guest editing a climate-themed issue of the Kenyon Review. Since the release of the 2018 IPCC report, she has been writing specifically about the climate crisis. A professor of creative writing at City College, CUNY, and a resident of the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, her next book, Lessons for Survival, will be published in 2023.
