Bombazo Dance Co is a bronx based 501 c 3 non profit dance and drum organization lead by renowned Bomba dancer, Milteri Tucker Concepcion. Our mission is to preserve, educate, advocate and present Puerto Rico's oldest musical genre Bomba, the islands African heritage. dating back to the 17th century, Bomba is dance, drum and song practiced and maintained by the enslaved and free people of color. At Bombazo we keep these traditions alive for ALL Bronxites to experience, learn, make connections and create community. For the past 16 years our organization has provided free dance, drum and sewing Lessings in Bomba for the community (the School); created two festivals: The Bronx Dance and drum Festival, uniting African based dance and drum from the African, Caribbean and Hispanic Diaspora as well as Bombazo in The Bronx a festival uniting local and international Bomba ensembles. We have an strong community based dance and drum ensemble, a youth dance ensemble and our professional dance company, where it has presented all five boroughs, triturate area, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, abroad in Mexico and Cuba. In addition we dance programs for older adults and Prek-12 in school and after school programming in four Bronx schools. We strongly believe in the power of community, working together to keep these traditions alive for the next generation.
