Anna & Kitty, Inc. is a 501(c)3 registered not-for-profit organization devoted to female+ arts and culture with an emphasis on education and leadership through novel interpretations of Jewish and immigrant text. Our name comes from the dual heroines of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina as well as the fictional character "Kitty" to whom Anne Frank addressed many of her diary entries. We aim to re-center and uplift women's voices, imaginations, and narratives, national and international, utilizing cultural interrogation as a benchmark for global and personal development. Drawing, in particular, on the power of writing and self-expression, we aim to re-center and uplift female+ voices, imaginations, and narratives in the room and on the stage.
Co-founded by Liba Vaynberg, a first generation Jewish American, and Inés Braun, an Argentinian immigrant, we embody and challenge text through theatrical expression. Our previous projects and collaborations include the THE RUSSIAN & THE JEW (co-produced by the Tank and the Council of Jewish Émigré Community Organizations), Round Table (at 59E59, co-produced by Fault Line Theatre, TSQ's Top 10 of 2019), and an ongoing series of readings, developing THE MATRIARCHS. Lead artists have also co-produced and taught with Sewanee Writers' Conference, Eugene O'Neill National Playwriting Conference, Manhattan JCC, GenerationR, Working Theater, NYSCA, Colt Coeur, Rattlestick, 14STY and LABA Second Stage and been profiled and featured in American Theater Magazine, TDF, The New York Times, The Jewish Weekly, The Brooklyn Rail, CANVAS Compendium, Lilith Magazine, and many more.
