Ode to the Black Fiddler (OBF) Music Festival is an annual event produced by IAH Studio. The festival showcases the artistry and versatility of professional string performers of color (who present all genresof music), while engaging the local community and empowering the next generation of music makers. Known for its high-caliber and diverse programming, the festival offers a free, full-day experience including: eight featured performances, food & beverages, DJ sets, local vendors, interactive stations, and more. The event culminates with an open jam session, where members of the audience—musicians, poets, singers, etc.—are invited to get on stage and perform with a live string ensemble. Currently, the IAH Studio team is planning for the 7th Annual OBF Music Festival which will take place in late August/Early September 2023 from 1:00pm-9:00pm at The Bronx Brewery (Bronx, New York).
Ode to the Black Fiddler was produced with five main goals in mind: (1) to bring concert hall performances to low-income neighborhoods, (2) to create a free, accessible space for the community t oengage in the performing arts and learn healthy lifestyle choices, introducing plant-based food options and local wellness businesses, (3) to provide an inclusive and equitable platform for professional string musicians of color who often face racial and wage discrimination in the music industry. (4) to educate the public about the cultural relevance of string music in communities of color, and the historic involvement and mastery of string musicians from the Diaspora, (5) to strengthen and support the local economy by intentionally showcasing community entrepreneurs/vendors and small BIPOC businesses.
