Neighborhood United, was founded in the spring of 2020. The art program, Canvas Kids, is a youth art collective that focuses on art education and art history. Neighborhood United serves Bronx youth fromage 7-18 and expands to a regional demographic expands beyond those borders.
Canvas Kids art classes are held in-person with a virtual component attached to the program.Canvas Kids teaches the fundamentals of figure drawing and designing expressive characters. Through both virtual and in-person workshops, students develop interpersonal skills through collaborative critiquing, designing, revising, and reflecting on a narrative of their own conception. These narratives connect students to real world identities. It is essential for students to construct concepts rooted in the everyday individual in order to further engage and connect to their community without the lens of escapism.
