DANCING FUTURES RESIDENCY 2023

Dancing Futures Residency 2023 is an annual project created by partners Pepatián and BAAD! Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance which provides professional development opportunities for three NYC-based emerging dance artists of color and/or emerging Bronx-based dance artists.

These artists, chosen by a selection committee of other NYC-based dance artists, receive mentorship, free rehearsal space and paid performance opportunities at BAAD!, located at 2474 Westchester Ave, Bronx NY; #6 train to Westchester Sq or Zerega. This project is a development of Pepatián’s mission to create, support and produce contemporary, multi-disciplinary performance works by Latinx/a/o and/or Bronx-based artists. Pepatián is proud to work with the wonderful BAAD! Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance as a long-standing collaborating partner.

Pepatián’s Dancing Futures Residency supports the creation of contemporary dance works with mentoring support that helps emerging artists more fully realize their artistic visions. This residency also provides written accompaniment by writers of the artist’s choice.

Selected artists will receive $4,000 total for the residency (this includes all rehearsal and performance fees and helps off-set admin time). In addition to a $4000 total fee, selected artists will receive support from accessible and experienced mentors, and other marketing, production and documentation support towards a culminating residency showing of new contemporary dance and dance theater work developed during Dancing Futures Residency. All rehearsal and performance activities will take place at BAAD!.

Artists must have some evidence of professional achievement (with three 7-10 minute physically-based movement works already publicly presented) but must be emerging - and not recognized as established artists with a substantial record of accomplishment. If you are unsure whether you qualify or not, please write us at: pepatian@gmail.com
