Bronx Concert Singers (BCS) is a volunteer, COMMUNITY mixed-voice chamber concert chorus dedicated to bringing the powerfully enriching musical experience and artistic excellence of professional artists’ performance to underserved communities within the Bronx and Greater New York, such as Parkchester. The chorus is committed to rehearsing and performing a distinctive repertoire, enhanced by professional orchestra and singers, that is grounded in the European classical tradition and inclusive of the works of 20th/21st century composers as well as musical traditions from around the world. Our mission is for our performances to inspire and encourage our audiences to make listening to and participating in the choral arts, classical music, and world music, an ongoing part of their cultural experience.
BCS offers lifelong opportunities to musicians and music lovers in the Bronx and surrounding communities to appreciate, learn, perform and participate in the fellowship of choral arts, while showcasing their talents in the community. Founded in 1981, we are a nonsectarian, nonprofit arts organization whose members span generations (20s – 80s!), race, cultures, professions and socio-economic categories. We actively recruit members at all levels of singing experience (novice to professional) and technical skill. Rehearsals emphasize proper singing techniques, stylistic standards, and listening skills enhanced by our Music Director’s historical and stylistic insights. Volunteer community singers benefit from singing with professional singers and instrumentalists. Professional singers and instrumentalists are intrigued by the range of music we perform, opportunity to build their resume, and the high artistic standards our Music Director sets.
