Bachatu is a one-person musical that follows Dilson, as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery. This solo show incorporates Dominican traditional music and American genres to address issues of the effects of poverty, racial identity, spiritual awakenings, and self-realization.
While growing up in the South Bronx, Dilson was constantly reminded of its historical, artistic scene. From the inception of Hip Hop to the foundation of Salsa, The Bronx has inspired him to contribute to it's legacy, like the many artists before me. He is a firm believer in pushing art forward. He aims to create transformative music, theatre, and television shows that push the status quo and help inspire the next generation of artists to be fearless and daring in their creative expression. As an educator and humanitarian, his art is also highly reflective of the community that he serves. Whether it’s facilitating music workshops at the infamous Rikers Island or organizing social-justice themed events in NYC, he strives for his art and community work to help build a more just and sustainable world for marginalized people, especially the black and latiné population in the U.S.
