Youth Program | Art of Light

Join us for our artist led workshop, “Art of Light” with Valeria Divinorum. This workshop offers interactions with light and shadow through transforming simple materials to discover new ways of artmaking. Valeria will demonstrate interactions with various light filters such as acrylics, glass, crystals and more. Each student will create their own colored filter drawings, allowing them the opportunity to explore the reflections of light and shadows through the use of LED lights and an overhead projector. Students will investigate and learn about the nature of light while analyzing how shadows are formed. Through experimentation, students will develop an understanding of the terms “translucent,” “opaque,” and “transparent” through the creation of “colored shadows”. In this workshop, students get to test the way light interacts with matter by a way of transmission, absorption, and reflection. Experiment and play with us as we explore different shapes, sizes, and colors that give potential to breathe new life into your artwork!
