WALLWORKS NEW YORK TO CLOSE OUT THE CALENDAR YEAR WITH A GROUP EXHIBITION OF BRONX-BORN AND RAISED ARTISTS
Opening Saturday, November 2, 2024, Yo Soy de Aquí / I am From Here will feature work by Lizzy Alejandro, Alexis Marie Montoya, and Kamille Vargas-Estrella, all Bronx-born and raised artists grappling with their identities of being second-generation women in an ever changing society.
Curator and director Anna Matos explains: “Where are you from?” “De donde eres?” One question, asked in various ways, seeking a particular answer depending on who has asked. It’s a unique experience for the second and third generation kids. In a city that was and is still being built by immigrants, where do we fit in?” These are the questions that Lizzy Alejandro, Alexis Marie Montoya, and Kamille Vargas-Estrella are seeking to answer through their work.
