On June 16, for Tupac Shakur's 50th Birthday Celebration, Writer & Teaching Artist Nahshon Dion hosted a two and half hour Zoom event with producer, director, artist, Tracy Danielle Robinson (www.facebook.com/tracydanielle), Tupac's former manager and mentor Leila Steinberg (www.facebook.com/LeilaSteinbergpage), and over a dozen other talented contemporary artists and prominent industry voices. They honored Tupac's legacy by reading excerpts from his 1999 instant classic poetry book "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" (Pocket Books/MTV Books). They also discussed Tupac Shakur's words, image, and musical legacy continuing global impact on culture and society.
This September 13 marks the 25th anniversary of Tupac's death while in Las Vegas for the Mike Tyson fight and to celebrate Tracy Robinson's birthday.
Thanks to a generous NYC Artist Corps grant, they will host a virtual memorial tribute and read Tupac's poetry book again. Yes, again! They love the genius Tupac that much. Some fabulous participants from the prior event are returning, including some new voices from (www.facebook.com/truthabouttupac)
and Leila Steinberg's historic Microphone Sessions.
Tupac’s mom Afeni Shakur, said it best, or in the words of the illustrious Afeni Shakur, "As long as you keep 2PAC's vision, his music, and his memory alive. His spirit will not die. I believe it is still in the best of my heart. You can kill a revolutionary, but you cannot kill a revolution. I want to encourage you to keep loving, keep creating, keep making music, keep dancing and keep living." - Afeni Shakur.
“Tupac had and continues to have a bright light of energy. I also see similar energy in the eyes of young and mature black men. May their light communicate that you do not have to dim someone else's light to shine your light.” – Producer & Director Tracy Danielle Robinson.
Please join us again on Monday the 13th at 5:00 PM (PST) and 08:00 PM (EST) Time (US and Canada) on Zoom (https://tinyurl.com/TUPACMEMORIALTRIBUTE) as we celebrate the life of a beloved New York legendary artist and his words, "I don’t think I’ll change the world, but I guarantee I’ll spark the brain that will change the world."
You are invited to a Zoom meeting. Register in advance for this meeting: https://tinyurl.com/TUPACMEMORIALTRIBUTE. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the event. This program is made possible by the New York City Artist Corps.
