Salvatore Aurema is a widowed, Italian immigrant living out his days in the Northeast Bronx. He loves his daughter Chiara, a school teacher, and his garden, where he tends to his vegetables and argues with his dead wife, Kathleen. It is late spring 2001. Abandoned buildings and empty lots are being developed all around him and Salvatore’s yard has become a refuge for rats When a local land developer, the son of a deceased mobster, takes an interest in Sal’s house and Chiara, old traumas and secrets return. Sal lost control of his family once before. It will not happen again.
