Generative Poetry Workshop with Christina Olivares

Generative Poetry Workshop with Christina Olivares

In this generative workshop, we'll read, share (if you choose to share) and explore poems as we write our own together.  The great poet June Jordan said, "The first function of poetry is to tell the truth, to learn how to do that, to find out what you really feel and what you really think." Especially in these times, and in all times, it's a good idea to give ourselves some space to unfold what we know to be true and make art to express our truths. In our time together, we'll explore how to say what we think and feel using some of the tools poetry gives us: spacing and line breaks, sensory detail, memory, interruption, clarity and dreaminess. By the end, all participants will have created several poems of varying structures.
