Taking as its focus Gaston Lachaise’s striking Standing Woman statue, the film explores the French-born American artist’s relationship with his model for the work: his wife and muse, Isabel Dutaud Nagel. The film includes quotes from the sculptor’s passionate love letters and scenes of the statue’s recent recasting at the Modern Art Foundry in Queens, NY. The film is also a valentine to Stoney’s own companion, Betty Puleston, who was Belle’s grandniece.
