Art at the Sound 2021 brings you 5 award-winning artists conducting workshops on the circle at the waterfront in Soundview Park. Sunday sessions for adults in July and August, and children's and families’ sessions on Saturdays in August. Each session is hosted by community artist Lucy Aponte and conducted by award-winning and accomplished professionals. Following Health Department guidelines, social distancing, families together, masks worn if less than 6 feet. Performers and speakers will unmask while distanced.
A. ADULT WORKSHOPS

2. August 1: 11 am-12pm, Is Self-Publishing the Way to Go? with author Yadhira Gonzalez-Taylor
YADHIRA GONZALEZ-TAYLOR, published children's author, writer, attorney, adjunct professor, US Army Veteran. Graduate City University of New York, received B.S., magna cum laude and M.A., in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Graduated from New York Law School in 2002, appointed ADA in Bronx County, prosecuting cases, appointed internal prosecutor for NYPD, prosecuting corruption inside department, administrative hearing officer for the NYC DOE, adjunct professor at Monroe College in the Bronx School of Criminal Justice, advocate for literacy .promoting reading, learning, and access to books.
3. August 15: 11am-1pm, Open Mouth at the Sound featuring poets/writers Maria Aponte and Bobby Gonzalez. Come early to sign up for open mic to follow featured artists

a. MARIA APONTE is a Poet/Performance Artist/ Community Arts Activist/Educator. Featured on Bronx Net, News 12, NBC Latino and TIEMPO WABC-TV. She is a two- time recipient of the International Latino Book Awards for Transitions of a Nuyorican Cinderella and The Gift of Loss. Founder and President of Latina 50 Plus. Maria is also an Honoree of the first Bronx Book Fair award for Lifetime Community Service and Literary Excellence
b. BOBBY GONZALEZ is an Indigenous/Latino lecturer, storyteller and poet. He is the author of several books including TAINO ZEN and "The Last Puerto Rican Indian: A Collection of Dangerous Poetry." Bobby has presented at Carnegie Hall, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the University of Mississippi and many other museums and colleges. He organizes and MC's the annual Bronx Native American Festival in Pelham Bay Park. Bobby was selected as the 2018-2019 New York City Indian of the Year. He was also awarded the first Bronx Book Fair Lifetime Community Service and Literary Excellence Award.

LUCY APONTE is a teaching artist, exhibiting artist, muralist, arts curator, poet, writer, event organizer, community leader, retired nurse, early literacy advocate, children's advocate, volunteer, Founder of the Friends of Soundview Park, organizing the Annual Soundview Park Summer Art and Music Festival, community organizing Make Music NY, piano buddy with Sing for Hope pianos. Awarded Book Binders Grant for Innovation in Early Literacy: Literacy Assistance Center, Community Arts Grant BCA: Kids and the Classics. Her art has been featured in Latina Magazines Spotlight of the week, On the Wall: 40 Years of Public Murals in NYC , host of poetry readings for Riverdale Senior Services, conducts special needs adults non-fiction writing workshops, editing and publishing the Special Express Writers Anthology with public book launch, etc. Her writing has been featured in several anthologies.
