for The Big Read and The Bronx Memoir Project

2013 BRIO literary winners Jon Lewis Katz, Patricia O’Hanlon, Leah Maddrie, Phyllis Bowdwin and Jamali Corniel will fulfill their BRIO ACEs (Artists for Community Enrichment) community service programs for two Bronx Council on the Arts programs in spring 2014: The Bronx Memoir Project and The Big Read. JEN SHYU is an experimental jazz vocalist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, scholar, and educator who has performed as a solo artist, bandleader and collaborator in the U.S. and abroad. Her career credits and awards are many.

New DCA Commissioner Appointed!

The Bronx Council on the Arts Board and Staff congratulates Tom Finkelpearl on his appointment as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. We know he will do a great job!

Community Arts Development Program
The Department of Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce the second iteration of Community Arts Leadership, managed by the Community Arts Development Program (CADP). Community Arts Leadership is a year-long capacity-building initiative designed to help arts leaders effectively run their small, community-based cultural organizations. A pre-application to determine eligibility is due on April 24, 2014 and final proposals are due May 21, 2014. Click here for more

The 2014 Food & Arts Festival is being held on Sunday, May 18th, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm, and all Bronx-based Artists & Arts Groups are invited to take part in this Grand Finale of Bronx Week 2014 (May 8-18). "Art and About" is a new show starring 8-time BRIO winner Daniel Hauben. From locations around the borough, Hauben will demonstrate the process through which he has been painting Bronx landscapes for nearly 30 years.
